ASTROLOGICAL COMPATIBILITY
To determine how two people will get on in a relationship, the individual horoscopes need to be interpreted first, without consideration of the other. Special attention is paid to what the person seeks in another, and how they approach relationships in general. The Descendant (7th house cusp) and its aspects can tell a lot, but so can the whole chart. For example, the position and aspects of the Moon will tell of the emotional needs, and those of Mercury will give clues as to how the person communicates in relationships.
The next step is to see what each persons offers the other in terms of fulfilling their needs and desires in a partner, as reflected in the overall chart analysis. We then come to the fun part of comparing each of the points and planets in the two charts by aspects they make to each other. This is the synastry. The greater the number of close aspects such as conjunctions does not necessarily mean the relationship will be strong and lasting, sometimes too many conjunctions can make it too hard to stay together in the same room. Each planet planet or point in aspect gives clues to how two people will connect. For example a strong Pluto could signal power and control issues, or intensity and great depth to the relationship, depending on the aspect and the other planet or point. Involvement of the Lunar Nodes or the Vertex point can indicate a destined or karmic relationship elated to a shared past life experience.
The composite chart is the next step in the journey. This is a theoretical chart based on the midpoints of the planets and points of each horoscope. It describes how the two people will function and an entity, as a couple. As an example, we have Saturn on the Ascendant in our composite chart, so we find our selves working together in the same business. We have our issues with delays and restraints, but also have the endurance to make it work. Saturn can act like glue in relationship astrology. Aspects from the composite chart to the individual chart will also give clues as to how each person views the relationship at the functional level.
Yet more information can be gleaned from looking at the Davison chart which is a true horoscope unlike the composite chart. It is worked out by averaging the birth data of each chart, time and place. Whereas the composite chart will decibe how the two people function as a couple, the Davison chart describes the deeper relationship issues, why they came together and some of the soul related issues. How the relationship evolves through time can also be worked out by looking at the transits to the Davison chart.
THE DRACONIC CHART.
The great seer Edgar Cayce gave information on the horoscopes of his clients. Astrologers had a hard time knowing what he was talking about until it was discovered that he was “seeing” their Draconic charts. The Draconic chart is worked out by making the North Node zero Aries. This is the real deep soul centred astrology. It is especially useful in relationship astrology when comparing each Draconic chart to the natal and composite charts. The key to understanding the strength and nature of the relationship can be found in this method. It ties the whole process together and gives a very clear picture, reinforcing the major themes uncovered by the previous stages of investigation. As an example, the Saturn theme in our
relationship highlighted when comparing our Draconic charts in synastry. Marina’s Ascendant is conjunct my Saturn, and my Ascendant is conjunct her Saturn. “Souls bound together”.
One of our clients has agreed to let us use our relationship reading for her as an example of our methods. Our methods do change depending on the charts but this is a pretty good guide. Her feedback confirmed the accuracy of the reading, her partner is in the film industry and she is a translator.
